Hi all. I am new to the world of historical firearms. Very recently I picked up this 1940 P08. All serial numbers matched. I have the matching #2 magazine but missing #1. Holster matches serial as well. No tool.
I am looking to get a rough estimate as to what value something like this holds, and any history or background information as to what I own here Thanks in advance!
The photos appear to be a bit brighter than i hoped making the blueing look a lit washed away. I can provide more pictures if anyone needs that will show it darker and closer to how it is in person
You have an E/L accepted police Luger. Be sure to stabilize the active rust using well oiled steel wool 0000 fine on the soiled surface gently.
The S/42 stamp you see under the barrel was applied to replacement parts with Mauser sold them to armory agencies. It's likely it was arsenal replaced.
You should find the number 56 or 55 stamped inside the side plate.
First off thank you so much for the quick reply. I greatly appreciate it. I will read through the FAQ document tonight. Just wondering, any ballpark idea on what something like this would be worth? Just trying to get a rough estimate as to what this one could be worth. (I am going to research the information that you have provided tonight) Thanks a ton!
Very nice pick up! You have a desirable Police banner Luger. (Issued to Police personal) Looks like a nice original finish with one matching magazine. The holster is Army and not a Police issue holster.
Do a search on the forum for more info on Police banners.
As far a value, I would say depending on where you live $2500 - $3000 But some members may correct me on that.
If you type the words "police banner" inside quotation marks into the search function at the top of the forum, you will get many good search returns on the subject.
You have a nice looking and desirable piece. The Police Banner is not common.
Here are just some topics to help you understand more about your Luger. There are many more results for you to peruse.
Is the holster made of pigskin? Appears to me that it is. If so, you should be able to trade it for a nice police accepted Luger holster. Jim
