Back on VE day I had mentioned in another post that Andrea's hometown celebrated it. She went home for the annual celebration and surprised me by sending back photos of a memorial to Gen. Patton. Given the area's postwar domination by the Soviet Union I never suspected the would have a memorial for an American General.

Well, they do. In fact, one of the biggest celebrations they have commemorates the city's liberation by the American army.

The memorials are briefly shown in my video, Patton's at 1:26 and the main one at 1:30. The intersection where the large memorial is located is the intersection of the main street and America Boulevard.

    Here are a few photos.

    First, the Patton Memorial

    Then American Memorial

As you can see, the memorials are only 30 years old. While they were under the USSR bootheel the city could not celebrate its liberation. But the people never forgot.

There are a lot of young Americans today who would benefit from seeing those Czech monuments.

They'd just smear some slogan on them, or topple Patton's because he was mean and slapped a soldier.

Well folks, this is the final message for this thread from Berlin.

Andrea, my personal Valkyrie, took me to Valhalla this past weekend. I'll post all about it later on. But tomorrow I fly back to the bat$hit crazy, virus ridden, good old USA.

I'll be in quarantine for two weeks to make sure I didn't pick up the virus on my flights. I can't take a chance on infecting my wife since she has to care for her 101 year old mom, so Kay will stay im my daughter's bubble while I'm alone in the house.

I'll miss Berlin. This year certainly didn't turn out to be anything even remotely like I planned, but I still had a good time.

As Ron said, welcome home. You're frequent posts have been educational and very entertaining. Thank you for taking the time and effort to describe how living in Europe and going to school has been during the pandemic, as we would never get that kind of coverage from our local talking heads.
