Numbered black plastic magazine study

The purpose of this study is to identify and understand how many different types there were and to what lugers they were issued to. Hopefully, there will be some reunions of orphan mags in the process.

Some believe that these mags were issued to Ku lugers and other think that Mauser also may have numbered some. Perhaps both are correct.

To start with I have observed two different types of numbering. What I will call Type 1 appears to be heat stamped while Type 2 looks to be pantographed. A 10X loop is very helpful in showing the difference.

Pictured below are three Type 1 and one Type 2 that I have along with a couple of side by side shots to compare differences in depth and font.

Data that I would appreciate having:

1) Serial number and type
2) Magazine body markings ( fxo- 122-other)
3) P.08 stamping (normal or upside down)

If the magazine matches a Ku luger please advise chamber and toggle marking and if the Ku is a prefix or suffix. If it matches a Mauser please advise full serial number and chamber and toggle markings.

Pictures really help...

Neat photos. Not to be contrary, but from the appearance of the numbers I would say that they are all pantographed. The rounded ends of the numbers and the "+" is typical of pantographing. I think your Type 1 was marked with a bit that had a pronounced "V" shape while the Type 2 is a more shallow "V" or perhaps rounded. I enlarged the photos to study them but it isn't like having the item in hand. I could be dead wrong (wouldn't be the first time :))

Interesting that all shown are marked with a plus(+) indicating second magazine. Perhaps the numbered bakelite mags were ordered as an afterthought by the original units issued the guns. I don't recall whether those I have encountered were so marked as well.

This one came in 41 byf, 2063 KU

I removed the whiting from the numbers with mineral spirits and a Q-tip to make them a little clearer.
Type 4 Army Magazine
Type 1 markings
E/37,fxo and P.08
There appears to be another stamp on the bottom rear spine, under the blue which looks like a lower case "a".
Sorry for the poor lighting this evening.

Doug... Thanks for joining in. Would be very interested in learning the other details about the mag. This is very early in this study but at this point it could be either Type 1 or 2 and I would be most interested to see if there is a "break point" between the two types around your number...

41/42 Mauser Ku 4425

Dave,
Pics posted . FXO E/37 on left side in front of mag base, with P.08 on left side of mag running upwards behind mag base. The numbering looks pantographed to me, small swirls in bottom of numbers.
I include inside grip pic with Ku 4425 stamped, they also have E/655 proofs stamped.

Jerry"s serial no. ku4425 seems to support that both type 1 & type 2 numbered mags were issued with ku lugers. To date, only these fxo numbered mags have been seen in in ku lugers. As has been noted before, the size of the serial numbers on the lugers themselves have varied between large and smaller styles, also without a clear reason for this difference?
