Avatar: First US test American Eagle serial number #5673. Photo from NRA magazine spread. On Display at NRA museum. The first US contract was serial range 6100-7200. Only known 1900 luger with US markings, serial, and possession by Springfield Armoury. Gun has 14 hammer blows on top of toggle as documented in US Army test report in March of 1901...same period #5673 would be manufactured.

Figment of someone's imagination, in my opinion. But no idea who's or when. The side plate has also been ground and bead blasted. Lunchbox gun?

You gotta wonder why Mauser would mess with some old, used side plate cut for police duty.

"Presentation" and "Prototype" were excellent words chosen for use by the Luger Mafia. Got many to throw down big $$ sums.

    Mark...

Maybe a shared "pedigree" with this one from the Boys-O-Phoenix :

The Cc/U proofs are commercial, but the serial #, without suffix, does not fit into the commercial range. If it were a prototype, I would think the serial # would be a lot lower.
