    Pistol... The hot pin test is pretty much the gold standard for bakelite. Your second set of pictures indicate to me that perhaps they are copies of Type 1 grips that IMO are from HK and came in either back or brown. I would think you could determine if they are painted by trying to scrape off a small section with a small knife.

    Thanks.......Did HK make a black plastic grip (non-bakelite) that would have used the same mold (hence the same imperfection) as the Type 1 and Brown HK?

    As far as I know they did not. My comments in post 31 above may have left you with the wrong impression as to your grips. IMO your grips are not original.

    Ok, but why the same molding imperfections on the right grip observed on HK grips and some Mauser? Are the fakers that good or are they early repos that used the same mold?

    I recently posted this 1940 42 luger in the new collectors forum.

    Serial # 4611 and it has walnut grips.

    I have a picture in the link of the grips removed with the 11 stamp visible.

    Jan... 1940 42 code 4883h. Type 1 grips. Have added to my Black Grip study.
