    Default Khyber Pass Makarov...

I found this yesterday at a local gun show. It's a Pakistani copy of a Russian Makarov , most likely made in the town of Darra. How it entered the US is unknown (since it appears that is almost impossible for a service member to bring one back). It's a fair copy considering the artisans who made it used ancient lathes & milling machines and probably tempered parts over goat dung fires. The dealer kept insisting it was Russian military issue because his store's gunsmith said so and had also fired the pistol and proclaimed it safe. So much for the wisdom of gunsmiths. Here are some pics.

I am constantly amazed at what those Khyber Pass guys can carve out of a chunk of railroad track.
If it is made after 1918...it is a reproduction.

I have never owned a Kyber pass gun, but would like to at some point, just as an addition.

Yes, very strict at what can be brought back, when I was there, bayonets were not allowed, helmets weren't allowed, the only thing allowed was patches and perhaps uniforms. Guys that had been there previous deployments told me that the above items could be brought back but no guns.

I know of several guns that were brought back (My Vet Bring Back books has at least two or three) - likely not mailed, they visually checked everything, and depending on your unit, how close what you had. I was there as a civilian police adviser, and they visually went through everything I was shipping, at least twice.

Agreed on how good they can make a gun sitting on a floor with parts being hand filed and whatnot.

On handmade... News (actually, old news) saying Beijing police arrested a gun enthusiast in 2013. The guy loved guns, of course, there is no gun to buy... so he spent five years built one rifle at home, and also made about 60 rounds of ammo. While he carried this gun to remote area to test it working or not, police found the gun...
