Top marking is not clear enough for me to make out. The lower marking appears to be "M.G.K.2.R.158" which could be M.G. company, 2nd Regiment, weapon 158 or it could be M.G.(company)2. Regiment 158. The Bekleidungsamt number should answer which it is.
George: The holster is dated 1917, so an interpretation of M.G.K.2 would seem correct; also the placement of the periods for MGK. Regiment 158 would also seem correct. JMHO
Well, I found the 158 IR was the Lorraine Infantry Regiment based in Paderborn, but it was part of Army Corps VII/Munster. The maker mark shows Oldenburg, which is just north of Munster. Would the VII AC conflict with the BA XI mark?
Thanks Klaus.....can you make out the words and initials above unit mark? Could it be the units name?
